The US Treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, summoned major American bank chiefs to a meeting in Washington this week amid concerns over the cyber risks posed by Anthropic’s latest AI model, as per the reports.

Jerome Powell, chair of the Rederal Reserve, turned into stated to had been among those collected on the Treasury headquarters for the meeting after the launch of the Claude Mythos AI model that Anthropic says poses unprecedented cybersecurity risks.

A recent leak of Claude’s code prompted the startup to publish a blogpost at the starting of the month pronouncing that AI model had surpassed “all but the most skilled humans at locating and exploiting software program vulnerabilities”, adding: “The fallout – for economies, public safety, and national safety – could be severe.”

In an annual letter to shareholders, posted this week, Dimon warned that cybersecurity “stays one among our biggest risks” and that “AI will nearly surely make this risk worse”.

Anthropic has stated that its Mythos model, yet to be launched, has uncovered hundreds of vulnerabilities in software and popular applications, prompting it to restrict the launch of the brand new model to a small hold of businesses, consisting of Amazon, Apple and Microsoft.

This is the primary time Anthropic has put limitations on the launch of a product. The networking corporations Cisco and Broadcom have also received access, together with the Linux Foundation, which promotes the free, open-source Linux computer operating system.

The news comes amid concerns that hackers could emerge as the use of such tools for figuring out passwords or cracking encryption that is meant to maintain data safety. The corporation stated the oldest of the vulnerabilities uncovered by Mythos have been up to 27 years old, none of which is assumed have been observed by their creators or tech monitors before being recognized via the AI mode.

The meeting comes weeks after the United States government detailed Anthropic as a supply chain risk, allegations that Anthropic is combating in court.

The Federal Reserve, Anthropic and the United States banks declined requests for comment from Bloomberg. The Treasury did not reply to the news outlet’s request for comment.
