A new report from Red Hat finds that 89% of businesses are yet to see any customer value from their AI endeavours. Moreover, organizations expect a 32% growth in AI investment by 2026.

The survey finds that AI and security are the joint top IT priorities for UK corporations over the next 18 months, with 62% of respondents mentioning them as essential. These are observed through hybrid or multi-cloud strategies and virtualization, demonstrating a clear direction in the technological target of British businesses.

Moreover, the path to AI integration isn’t straightforward. The big majority of companies are confronting limitations to adoption, with the excessive costs of implementation and protection being the biggest concern for 34% of respondents. Data privacy and security problems are a close second, troubling 30%, at the same time as 28% are suffering with the integration of AI into their present systems.

A especially interesting finding is the prevalence of “shadow AI,” with 83% of organizations reporting the unauthorized use of AI tools through employees. This indicates a disconnect between official IT strategy and the day-to-day practices of the workforce, potentially announcing security risks and inefficiencies.

In an attempt to navigate those demanding situations, UK corporations are an boosting turning to open source software program. The survey disclose that 84% of respondents consider enterprise open source crucial for their AI strategy, with as it is excessive figures for virtualization, hybrid and multi-cloud, and security.

Joanna Hodgson, UK Country Manager at Red Hat, stated: “This year UK survey results show the gap between ambition and reality. Organizations are investing substantially in AI but recently only some are delivering consumer cost. In the journey from experimentation to sustainable manufacturing, company knowledge and integration with enterprise systems must pave the road to accomplishing value from AI.

“Openness is a force for more collaboration, sharing fine practice and allowing flexibility. As is the case with successful hybrid cloud investments, open-source will remain the bedrock for making AI more consumable and reusable.”

The survey also explored the unique regions of AI which might be being prioritized. Agentic AI, which include systems which could operate with a high degree of autonomy, is the top priority for 68% of respondents. This is followed by way of the preference to allow broad employee adoption and to operationalize AI.

The skills hole remains a persistent challenge, with AI being the most urgent location for the second consecutive year. Within the field of AI, the talent shortage is most acute in agentic AI, the ability to efficiently use AI capabilities, and educating the wider business on a way to use AI.

Despite these domestic challenges, there is a strong sense of optimism about the United Kingdom’s position on the worldwide AI stage. 83% of respondents accept as true with the UK is either already a worldwide AI powerhouse or has the potential to emerge as one inside the next 3 years. However, this confidence is tempered with bye a lack of talent pipeline, constrained public funding, and insufficient private sector engagement, which might be visible as the primary elements protecting the United Kingdom from withdrawing value from AI.

The report also touches on the complexities of cloud adoption, which is further complex by means of the integration of AI workloads. Internal silos, sovereignty issues, and unclear return on funding remain boundaries. In reaction, UK organizations are prioritizing operational control and autonomy, securing the software supply chain, and keeping flexibility in their choice of IT suppliers.

Hans Roth, SVP and GM for EMEA at Red Hat, commented: “Organizations want extra operational control and IT resiliency to adapt in a global of steady disruption. The survey effects, in addition to our day by day conversations, display sovereignty prominently on the agenda for enterprise’s ongoing cloud strategies and the budding AI opportunity.

“Open-source is primary to this shift as it presents businesses with the transparency and flexibility to innovate quick without compromise.”

The findings from Red Hat’s recent survey demonstrate the UK is prepared to tap the value potential of AI, however is likewise struggling with the practicalities of implementation, skills shortages, and the complexities of the technological environment. The sturdy emphasis on open-supply suggests a pragmatic method, assisting collaboration and flexibility within the pursuit of AI-driven innovation.
