Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has put out his blueprint for the future of AI, and it’s about giving you “personal superintelligence”.

In a letter, the Meta chief painted a image of what is coming next, and he believes it’s nearer than we think. He says his teams are already seeing early signs of progress.

“Over the previous couple of months we have started to look glimpses of our AI structures enhancing themselves,” Zuckerberg wrote. “The improvement is slow for now, but unquestionable. Developing superintelligence is now in sight.”

So, what does he need to do with it? Forget AI that just automates boring office work, Zuckerberg and Meta’s vision for personal superintelligence is a long way more intimate. He imagines a future where technology serves our individual boom, not simply our productivity.

In his words, the real revolution will be “everyone having a personal superintelligence that allows you gain your goals, create what you need to see within the world, revel in any adventure, be a better friend to the ones you care about, and grow to become the person you aspire to be.”

But here’s in which it’s get interesting. He drew a clear line in the sand, contrasting his vision against a very different, nearly dystopian option that he believes others are seeking.

“This is distinct from others within the industry who consider superintelligence ought to be directed centrally toward automating all precious work, after which humanity will live on a dole of its output,” he said.

Meta, Zuckerberg says, is betting at the individual on the subject of AI superintelligence. The organization believes that development has usually come from people seeking their own dreams, not from dwelling off the scraps of a hyper-efficient machine.

If he’s right, we’ll spend less time wrestling with software program and extra time creating and connecting. This personal AI might live in devices like smart glasses, knowing our world because they are able to “see what we see, listen what we hear.”

Of course, he is aware of that is effective, even dangerous, stuff.

Zuckerberg admits that superintelligence will bring new protection concerns and that Meta will must be careful about what they release to the world. Still, he argues that the aim need to be to empower people as much as possible.

Zuckerberg believes we’re at a crossroads right now. The picks we make in the following few years will determine the whole lot.

“The rest of this decade seems possibly to be the decisive period for figuring out the direction this technology will take,” he warned, framing it as a choice between “personal empowerment or a force targeted on replacing huge swaths of society.”

Zuckerberg has made his choice. He’s focusing Meta’s big resources on building this personal superintelligence future.
