On Thursday, OpenAI declared the launch of a light-weight version of its agentic coding tool Codex, the new model of which OpenAI launched in advance this month. GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark is explained by the corporation as a “smaller model” of that model, one that is designed for faster inference. To power that inference, OpenAI has introduced in a dedicated chip from its hardware partner Cerebras, marking a latest new level of incorporation in the corporation’s physical infrastructure.

The partnership between Cerebras and OpenAI was introduced last month, when OpenAI said that it had reached a multi-year agreement with the firm worth over $10 billion. “incorporating Cerebras into our blend of compute solutions is all about making our AI respond a whole lot quicker,” the corporation said at the time. Now, OpenAI calls Spark the “first milestone” in that relationship.

Spark, which OpenAI says is formed for swift, actual-time collaboration and “fast iteration,” will be powered by Cerebras’ Wafer Scale Engine 3. The WSE-3 is Cerebras’ third-generation waferscale megachip, decked out with 4-trillion transistors. OpenAI explains the latest lightweight tool as a “day by day productivity motive force, supporting users with fast prototyping” instead of the longer, heavier tasks that the original 5.3 is formed for. Spark is recently playing a research preview for ChatGPT Pro users in the Codex app.

In a tweet in advance of the declaration, CEO Sam Altman regarded to hint at the new version. “We have a unique factor releasing to Codex users on the Pro plan later today,” Altman tweeted. “It sparks joy for me.”

In its respectable statement, OpenAI highlighted Spark as designed for the lowest viable latency on Codex. “Codex-Spark is the first step towards a Codex that works in 2-complementary modes: real-time collaboration when you need fast new release, and long-running task whilst you want deeper reasoning and execution,” OpenAI shared. The corporation added that Cerebras’ chips excel at assisting “workflows that required extremely low latency.”

Cerebras has been around for over a decade however, in the AI generation, it has loved an increasingly prominent function in the tech industry. Just last week, the corporation introduced that it had raised $1 billion in fresh capital at a valuation of $23 billion. The corporation has previously announced its intentions to pursue an IPO.

“What excites us most about GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark is partnering with OpenAI and the developer community to find out what rapid inference makes feasible — new interaction patterns, new use cases, and a basically different model experience,” Sean Lie, CTO and co-founder of Cerebras, stated in a declaration. “This preview is simply the starting.”
